Statement of Purpose
Coming into freshman year, I was hoping for College Park Scholars to be a community that would make this huge university feel a little smaller. That is exactly what being in Media, Self, and Society has been for me. I have found friends with similar interests and academic drive, as well as a class that challenges my thinking and relates to current events. This class has improved my writing skills and given me experience with mixed mediums. I hope to continue to expand my thinking by being in scholars, and look at the media from a different perspective.
While Media, Self, and Society has been an integral part of my experience at the University of Maryland, it is just one part of my college experience. Since my double major is in accounting and finance, I am part of some clubs in the business school. I serve as a Project Manager for the Professional Affairs Committee in the Smith Undergraduate Student Association for all of 2020. In addition, I started as a Business Analyst for Consult Your Community, and I am now the Treasurer of the club. I also am a Teaching Assistant for Business Statistics (BMGT230). While these are my only leadership roles on campus, I am a member of the Accounting and Business Association, I will be involved in TerpTax next semester, and I am a Scholars Peer Mentor!
I thoroughly enjoy being involved on campus and in the business community. I plan to pursue a career in accounting after graduation. Next summer I will be a Tax Intern at BDO LLP in Boston, MA. I hope to continue to learn and grow my skills so I can sit for the CPA Exam after senior year, and have a full-time job in corporate accounting.
